What is a Spectrometer?

A spectrometer is an optical instrument that measures quantitatively a range of wavelengths for some source of light like the sun, the sky, or a plasma.

 

What does a Spectrometer do?

A spectrometer produces a spectrum that gives the intensity of light at various wavelengths in the form of a digital file. Software is provided to view and perform operations on the spectrum for purposes that range from detection of volcanic gases to measurement of the properties of optical glass.

The VS7550 is a miniature Czerny-Turner spectrograph with excellent speed, spectral range and spectral resolution with software control of slit size, input f#, order sorting filters, grating angle and dark exposures. For VUV operation, the spectrograph has a UHV window and laminar flow purge system, which allows operation down to the window short wavelength cut-off (112 nm for MgF2).

The UV spectrograph has a spectral range from the air short wavelength cut-off at 185 nm to the detector IR cut-off at 1100 nm.

RamSPEC VUV 0.3-0.6 Spectrometer

RamSPEC-VUV captures the hyper-spectral Raman spectral images on a 25 mm by 7 mm back-thinned CCD detector cooled to <-45 C. It can capture 1044 pixel wide spectra with up to 0.01 nm resolution with as many as 256 vertical elements for each spectral element. The operational range of the spectrometer is any 10 nm band between 140 and 550 nm.
