WINDO
(for
WINDs In-situ and Doppler
Oxygen)
measures O densities in the 80 to 300 km region by VUV resonance
fluorescence. This technique is non-contact and has been made
self-calibrating by the use of scanner optics. The measurement region
is outside the shock wave which is defined by the steep aerodynamic
wedge of the payload. In addition, the payload can sense the ambient
wind field perpendicular to the rocket velocity vector by measuring the
Doppler modulation of the roll signal.
